McKinsey&Company report on regional trends in the ASEAN countries

Management consulting firm McKinsey&Company analyses macroeconomic trends, financial markets and government and policy in the ASEAN countries. Thailand's GDP growth slowed down from 3.5% in Q2 to 3.2% in Q3 2016 as investments, private consumption and government spending declined. On a more positive note, current indicators as retail sales and industrial continued to exceed expectations for the second month in a row. Exports showed a strong recovery to record its first year-on-year expansion in seven quarters. Financial markets were not as badly affected as the other ASEAN countries in the aftermath of the US Presidential election. See the full report for in-dept analyses.

Tourism Breakfast Meeting

At the early hours of 21 March the Tourism Breakfast Meeting was held at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. The discussion during the meeting centered around the question 'how to support Dutch tourists in trouble in a responsible manner'. The attendees discussed whether exhange of information or enhanced collaboration in crisis situations could be the way forward. Guest speakers Lucien Heijstee, Thaivivat Insurance PCL, and Ernst-Otto Smit, Green Wood Travel, started the discussion chaired by Dr. Bert van Walbeek 

New Year Cocktail SO Sofitel

On January 24th we toasted on 2017 during the New Year Cocktail at the SO Sofitel. With over 120 attendees it was a great event. The location at the rooftop on the 30th floor was fantastic. Many thanks to Jet Airways for sponsoring the night!

Chiang Mai Chapter networking

The first Chiang Mai event of 2017 took place on 12 January at a new venue: the Starwork Co-working space on Tunghotel Road. Next to the usual networking setting Alex Veldkamp (CEO of Life Style Mall Retail Investment Co., Ltd) gave a special ‘quick-scan’ presentation on the change and business opportunities following the creation of the ASEAN Economic Community (EAC). 

NTCCxTech kick-off

On the first of December we organized the NTCCxTech kick-off event. The evening began with a panel discussion with speakers John Traas from, Amarit Franssen from AppMan, Gary Saisangkagomon from GoBear and Jérôme Le Louer from Wishbeer. As we had many attendees from both start-ups and corporates we continued networking with a very diverse group. 

Joint Chambers Tourism luncheon

On November 23 we organized a Joint Chambers Tourism luncheon:  ‘The road to 30 million visitors, what’s next?’ with John Koldowski. Check here the photos from the talk and networking afterwards.
